We had houseguests over the weekend so yesterday morning we drove them to Coconuts, where the motto is "Be Nice." We sat outside on the terrace overlooking the Intracoastal and ate Lobster Benedict and blueberry pancakes.

Afterwards, we drove up A1A, passing the sun-starved crowds on the beach. North of Sunrise, I pointed out the Sun Tower - my favorite building in Fort Lauderdale - and then we turned west on Oakland and headed toward Eucalyptus Garden. We snagged the one free table at the Alchemist and sat amongst a vaguely bohemian company, most drinking coffee but a few sitting with straws stuck in coconuts. It's difficult to look bohemian sipping a coconut, but a couple people pulled it off.

Then we drove through Wilton Manors, stopping at To the Moon for candy. Louis was disappointed to find no Little Debbies so I urged him to pick up some Goo Goo Clusters.

Down on 2nd Street we passed the jazz brunch and dipped into Sailboat Bend, where the swing bridge was just getting locked back into place. A quick stop at the Riverside Market and then back to the bridge which, this time, was in full swing.
