Yesterday on “Fresh Air,” Terry Gross interviewed Sigrid Nunez about her new novel and at one point mispronounced the name of the French philosopher Simone Weil. (It’s ‘Vey’ – as in ‘Oy vey.’) A few minutes later Nunez said the name, giving it the same pronunciation Gross had (‘While’). It was impossible to tell if she too was clueless or if she was exhibiting extraordinary tact.
