I drove down to Miami last night to meet the Villanova athletic director at a Brickell Village gastropub. These functions are enjoyable affairs held, in part, to inspire successful alumni to donate money, something former English majors don't have a lot of. Though I credit the superb English department, circa 1972, for helping me achieve whatever success I have had as a writer.
After the AD's talk I was tempted to ask him why the bookstore insists on selling only caps emblazoned with the thick, modern, multi-colored V and not a single one with a thin, simple, elegant V. Isn't retro in these days? If these caps were available, then I would give the university some money - at least enough for a cap.
