Saturday I took Hania, who is a celiac, to Doggi's for arepas, and then we drove to Calle Ocho to see a Turkish film at the Tower Theater. Arriving early, as I tend to do, we went into Nuevo Siglo supermarket looking for the Asturian cider that the Colon market down the street has replaced (I hope temporarily) with Argentine cider. Inside, we found a packed lunch counter and high-topped tables where patrons drink red wine with their steak and beans, but, alas, only Argentine cider.

The movie, Mustang, was about five sisters who try to escape their cloistered world. Before it, the woman sitting one seat over listened on her smartphone to news from Venezuela. Afterwards, we drove to Brickell Village and bought three truffles from a French chocolatier; then we headed back to Broward and joined some friends for an Irish evening at The Field.

Sunday afternoon we drove to the Julius Littman Performing Arts Theater in North Miami Beach to hear the Tekiah Klezmer Orchestra and cantor Benzion Miller. From there it was a short drive over to Sunny Isles, where we bought borscht and pickles at Matryoshka. A large group of senior citizens entered, all speaking Spanish. "We're from Miami," one of the women told me, "and we came up to see the Russian market." They were each given small plates with slices of blini. I thought: It's only a matter of time before we see a group of Russians at Nuevo Siglo.
