In his interview with Stephen Colbert not too long ago, Jonathan Franzen defended his avoidance of Twitter with the argument that a complex idea cannot be reduced to 140 characters. Yet as someone who considers himself, in part, a humorist, he should know that wit can be. Oscar Wilde would have been a master of tweeting.
