Christmas of 1975 I spent in Perpignan, France, at the home of a young woman I'd met at school in Aix-en-Provence. On Sunday the family gathered in the living room to watch a popular satirical TV show during which, in honor of the holiday, the host, Jacques Martin, made an entire nativity scene from foodstuffs, using a mini boudin blanc for the baby Jesus.
Martin lived to broadcast another day.
