Reading the London Spectator this weekend I came upon two quotes from John Updike: "Fame is a mask that eats the face" and "giving the mundane its beautiful due" (which could be my motto).
But it was another line of his - "America is a vast conspiracy to make you happy" - that came to mind as I took a rainy Sunday stroll through the Aventura Mall.
