My friend Willard visited this weekend from Texas, where he is a university English professor. He told of arriving there in the '70s and renting a car at the Dallas airport. The big-haired woman at the counter asked him what he was doing in Texas. After hearing his response, she said: "You're comin' here to teach us English? Why, you don't even talk like us."
