On the way to dinner Saturday night, Hania and I stopped into a clothing store, where the woman behind the counter told me she liked my glasses.

I hear this occasionally, usually from young people, and not always those interested in selling me something. I guess they assume that I got them from a contemporary designer when in fact I first bought this style - round tortoiseshells produced by the now defunct May Co. - at Limeburner's Opticians on Philadelphia's Walnut Street in 1973.
