When I read the comments to this blog I can always tell that the vast majority of them are bogus not just because of the names of the senders – Rodent Control Arlington, for instance – but because they sometimes express gratitude for the information I’ve provided. Even when I worked as the travel editor of a newspaper, I was never big on information (preferring atmosphere and humor); as a blogger I’ve given it up altogether. It would be amusing (and impressive) if these messages were all being sent by the former deputy managing editor, who frequently got on me for my lack of consumer helpfulness. But that would require a degree of inventive sarcasm that not even many journalists possess.
