At Bascom Palmer yesterday I learned that the visual field test - which I've taken twice a year for more than a decade - has a light that goes on periodically in the patient's blind spot. That way, if the patient clicks - as we're supposed to on seeing a flash of light - the person administering the test knows that the eye has drifted from the center light on which it is supposed to be focused.

I still don't like the thing, but now at least it has my respect.
