Last weekend the entrance fee for the Greek Festival at St. Sophia Cathedral in Miami was $5, the same price as the Greek Festival a few weeks earlier in Fort Lauderdale.
This weekend in Miami there is the Asian Culture Festival, and the entrance fee is $10. But for that you get the music, art, foods, etc. of numerous countries, including Thailand, China, Japan, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh and Vietnam.
Also this weekend we have the Scottish Festival and Games in Fort Lauderdale, the entrance fee for which is $25. Granted, sheepdogs are impressive, and who doesn't like seeing a man in a skirt? But I wonder how many South Florida parents are saying to each other: "Let's blow $100 at the Scottish Festival this weekend." Perhaps the organizers hope that what people pay at the entrance makes up for what they don't pay at the food stalls. Nothing like haggis al fresco on a hot and sticky afternoon.
