music, man

This is a wonderful time of year for people who like choral music and ancient music. And you don't have to shell out $100 to hear Seraphic Fire. (Tickets are $50, but who goes to a Christmas concert alone?) You can just tune your radio to 89.7 FM - Classical South Florida.

The magnificent voices - for two hours on Tuesday they focused on Spanish Renaissance music - make you wish they played this kind of thing more often. But they don't, which means you have to take advantage of it now.

Yesterday I was feeling a little low - only in part because of the exorbitant prices charged by South Florida's premier choral ensemble - when I heard, on Classical South Florida, In the Bleak Midwinter. Almost immediately, the world looked brighter.

How wonderful to find someone else who could be cheered by “In the Bleak Midwinter,” which, I’m sure, some people find a to be downer. Last week I had pandora on in my classroom when they played it, and I ran to a hymnal to read the words to my class. I told them I always wish I had written them. Christina Rosetti and Gustav Holst - what a combination! Another example of her beautiful words set as a carol is “Love Came Down at Christmas.” I also told my students that I always wish I had written the words to “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.” If you can divorce yourself from the experience of hearing renditions in CVS and Macy’s and actually read each word, it’s gorgeous, lush, and rich! Thanks for your comments on “In the Bleak Midwinter.” I will always think of you now when I hear it. They always sing it at Bethesda by the Sea in Palm Beach as part of their carol sing. I don’t know what night that is this year as we can no longer go. Jaf is totally bed-ridden now with Parkinson’s and is in Hospice care. So…kind of a bleak Christmas here. Thanks for cheering me up with your comments on the carol. As ever, Gretchen

I hardly drop remarks, however i did a few searching and wound up here music, man.
And I actually do have some questions for you if you tend not to mind.
Is it only me or does it look like a few of these remarks appear like they are written by brain dead individuals?
:-P And, if you are posting on additional social sites, I’d
like to keep up with anything fresh you have to
post. Would you list of every one of all your community
sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
