Surfing the tube this weekend I came across the national cheerleading competition. You could see the teams huddling for pep talks in the corridor, then running out to loud applause before performing their strenuous routines. It had all the hallmarks of a sport - not least the fact that they were competing - and I couldn't help but think it a shame that they didn't have cheerleaders cheering them on.
