My friend Linda writes about the possible closing of the American Polish Club in Lake Worth:
For over four years, on Wednesday night, I played percussion for free and had a lovely time. Everyone there is probably over sixty years old, often bringing their families, and the music has given them the energy of people half their age. Not everyone is Polish, which makes it even more of a statement about universal connections. At the end of the night, the lead singer/guitarist would have someone parade around with a flag to remind us of our great country. Then there would be a spiritual song reminding us to be grateful for what we have. Songs would not only be polkas but waltzes, ballads, light rock, Latin and country. There's line dancing as well as couples. Now after about 8 years, someone wants to close the club down and the people are signing a petition to prevent this. I don't know if there's anything I can do. Part of the problem is the lack of advertising and finances. I'm not sure if this is hopeless but the last day of dancing will be on December 23rd and I'm terribly sad.
