Traffic on the river has increased in recent days as yachts head off to appear at the boat show. They slip into view at the northern edge of the 1301 Building, dwarfing the sailboats and fishing boats and momentarily filling the landscape with their large-scale whiteness. I watch from the balcony as they float slowly past, and then disappear behind a thicket of trees.
In Here Is New York, E. B. White wrote that "no matter where you sit in New York you feel the vibrations of great times and tall deeds." In Fort Lauderdale, you feel the vibrations of great boats.
