Quite a weekend, what with International Workers' Day on Friday, Derby Day on Saturday, and Polish Constitution Day yesterday.
For the race we went with our friends Mark and Cecile to Cinema Paradiso, where they showed it on the big screen - just as they had the BCS game and the Oscars. Our local art movie house is becoming the go-to place for big events.
There was no red carpet Saturday, as there had been for the Academy Awards, but colorful ribbons ringed the courtyard. Mint juleps were served in the lobby. A number of ladies wore elaborate hats. It was a lovely scene. Everyone stood for the singing of My Old Kentucky Home, and then they were off, people in their seats cheering on their horses. When Mine That Bird crossed the finish line, applause broke out. We sat in awe at the sight of Robin Williams interviewed atop the winning horse.
