Got in the car around 6 and headed south, listening to a beautiful song about Nebraska on The Prairie Home Companion. A sign informed us that three closed lanes were in our future so we got off 95 and headed east on 119th Street and then south on N. Miami Ave.

Parked in the Design District, one block west of Michael's Genuine Food & Drink, and put $2 in the meter. (Not too long before this will be history.) We got a table inside next to the window and the world's most obsequious waiter. Everything we ordered - even those items that went contrary to his suggestions - were met with either "perfect" or "fantastic."

After dinner we drove across the causeway to Lincoln Road, which brimmed with people. I thought of Charles Lamb who wrote: "I sometimes shed tears in the motley Strand from fullness of joy at so much life." We passed a mime and, one block later, a flamenco dancer. I assumed they weren't roommates.
