Hania's been on me to write a Christmas wish list, though I'm more tempted to write a "don't wish" list, at the top of which would be a Kindle.
Though I love all the articles and talk about Kindle. The more people rave about it, and the more people buy it, the sooner we'll see the second step in the process: the rediscovery of the simple beauty of the book.

I think the Kindle is to books what CD's are to live music. I always listen to the best recording before going to an opera or a concert (so that I have an idea of what the work looks like without the usual coughing and sneezing we are entitled to and how the featured artist performs). You can judge a book on a Kindle and if you feel like it is worth reading it again you can buy the nice smelling paper copy for you to keep on the shelf. The huge problem we face is that you can't find a music store anymore in Fort Lauderdale (at least one who has more than a hundred of them on display)and I am afraid bookstores might follow up as they now barely survive on coffee table books sales (and expresso served at the bar)
Let's hope something nice will come out from this situation.
PS) 1 Lbs of Kindle will carry 150 Lbs of reading. Not good for the airline business!

I took grad courses online and found myself printing nearly everything we were asked to read. The professors had many articles and books scanned in and uploaded on the website for our convenience, but I just ended up printing it or buying the actual book. There's something tactile about reading you can only experience with a book. I also wouldn't want to know what it felt like to read to my children from a kindle. Too akward.
