Took the Honda to Wales Garage this morning. I've had honest and competent car mechanics before, but this is the first time in my life that I've actually looked forward to taking my car in for work.
The Levy's - parents Stewart and Diane, sons Ben and Sam - run an honest, efficient and incredibly homey shop. The waiting room is like a large family rec room (if you overlook the new tires hanging on the walls). There is a little children's corner, with table and toys, and between the two sofas sits a coffee table piled with magazines and books. (Today's selection included Barbara Kingsolver's Animal Dreams and Abraham Cahan's The Rise of David Levinsky.) One of the two resident cats sometimes makes an appearance.
This morning's oil change took less than 30 minutes (despite the fact that the garage looked full). Taking my credit card, Ben asked me how the travel writing was going. I told him I was headed to Japan in a few months.
"Great," he said. "I'll give you a list of parts you can bring back for me."
